Embedding Sustainability in Small and Medium-Size Enterprises: Experiences From Sweden

Most research on corporate sustainability has focused large companies’ efforts; however, a holistic approach small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) addressing the dimensions system elements is still limited. The aim of this article to assess how SMEs embed into their systems. A survey was developed sent 261 SMEs, from which 72 complete responses were obtained in Sweden. results show that there could be better operationalization priorities aligning them with company's impacts, particularly by focusing more environmental issues. 1) have been embedding through technocentric managerial approaches; 2) focus systems tend less connected others (e.g., products, operations production) not those highest influence governance change management); 3) employees informed about issues, but they receive training engaged efforts. should take perspective when system, address management issues complement approaches.
